RELEVANT: The REal Life EVidence AssessmeNt Tool
RELEVANT is an easy-to-use checklist that allows the assessment of the quality of published real life evidence. It provides a basis for determining which evidence should be used in guideline development, and gives a framework for researchers looking to produce high-quality real life studies.
We hope that this tool will help those conducting, reporting, identifying and using high-quality real life evidence.
The RELEVANT tool
RELEVANT is divided in two sections. The first section details primary criteria, essential for studies used to inform guideline development. The second section includes additional, secondary criteria for further assessment of the strengths and weaknesses of a study.

The development of RELEVANT
The RELEVANT tool was developed by a joint REG-EAACI task force, to support the evaluation of the quality of published real life comparative effectiveness research.
The creation of the tool is detailed in the following publications:
- The REal Life EVidence AssessmeNt Tool (RELEVANT): development of a novel quality assurance asset to rate observational comparative effectiveness research studies
- Quality standards in respiratory real-life effectiveness research: the REal Life EVidence AssessmeNt Tool (RELEVANT): report from the Respiratory Effectiveness Group—European Academy of Allergy and Clinical Immunology Task Force
